Case in point: The sun-gear-shaft to output-shaft-tube rings were changed to Teflon in the mid-60s on the Ford CIC transmission, and ring wear of the tube. Upon disassembly (which included removing the pump), all the seals look pretty good with exception of the pump housing to case gasket. The output shaft nut socket is available from Ford, part number 307-649, for about 250 to 300. This nut requires the special tool and lots of heat. The output nut tool is identical to the Torqshift (5R110W) nut just bigger. I immediately diagnosed that the front pump seal was bad so I picked up a seal kit.
